I would like to welcome
you and say thanks for
visiting our camp's
website. As the history
of our camp describes,
the UCV camp was
organized by the
citizens of the City of
Lynchburg in the month
of June 1887. Less than
a year later in April,
28 1888, the local
living veterans of the
War Between the States
gathered for the first
meeting of the Samuel
Garland Camp. On
May 7, 1894 the camp was
renamed the
Garland-Rodes Camp for
the two local generals
who served in the
Confederate States Army.
The Garland-Rodes Camp #
409 of the Sons of
Confederate Veterans was
chartered in Lynchburg
on April 3rd, 1903.
Today the Garland-Rodes
Camp # 409 is still
active and meets at Fort
Early on Memorial Ave,
in the city of Lynchburg
@ 7pm every 3rd third
Thursday of the month
except in December.
It is located within the
3rd Brigade of the
Virginia Division Sons
of Confederate Veterans.
We honor the memory of
all the gallant men who
served within the
Confederate States Army.
Our camp is active,
attending various events
and functions, some of
which are: local
festivals,
re-dedications,
parades, highway
cleanups,
grave cleanings and
more. We also try
to have special guest
speakers at our monthly
meetings. Some of the
topics that have been
shared with us have been
on the Confederate
Navy, V.M.I., local
regiments, genealogy,
local authors, just to
name a few.
If you would like to
join the Garland-Rodes
camp please feel free to
contact the Adjutant or
myself.
Documentation that is
required is the SCV
application, a family
tree linking your
ancestor to you,
military documents,
listing of your ancestor
in a regimental series
book,
death/birth/marriage
certificates or other
official documents.
Prior to joining, feel
free to stop in at one
of our meetings at Fort
Early. Our doors
are open to ALL male
descendants whose
ancestors served
faithfully in the
Confederate forces.
I hope this information
is helpful to you, and
you have enjoyed
visiting our website.
